Regional Transportation Plan Phase I (2006-2010)
Project Completed
Budget:
$19.6 million (construction)
Project Details: The traffic interchange at Interstate 17 and State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) was reconstructed to a new partial cloverleaf design to accommodate the widening of I-17 and improve traffic management.
The design utilizes traditional diamond interchange entrance and exit ramps, as well as loop ramps to reduce left turns at traffic signals in the high demand directions (northbound I-17 to westbound Carefree Highway and westbound Carefree Highway to southbound I-17) and significantly improve traffic flow.
A new two-span concrete girder structure was constructed to carry SR 74 over I-17.
The new overpass bridge includes two travel lanes in each direction, as well as dual left-turn lanes and dedicated right-turn lanes to enhance traffic flow entering I-17.
Our Valley Freeway System is part of the 2004 voter-approved Regional Transportation Plan. We are working hard with our transit partners to implement the voters’ vision and are committed to quality, safety, open communication with our neighbors, and minimal inconvenience to the traveling public.
